Nutella Hot Chocolate with Hazelnut Schnapps

Nutella Hot Chocolate with Hazelnut Schnapps

So you could say I'm on a Nutella kick, considering my follow up post to the Nutella Pinecones is Nutella Hot Chocolate! Is this really a bad thing? I didn't think so. There are several recipes for Nutella hot chocolate and hot cocoa. I tried a couple of recipes and I'm sharing my favorite with you. Now the reason I'm calling this post "Hot Chocolate," is due to the fact that I didn't actually use ANY cocoa powder like some recipes call for. One of the recipes I tested called for cocoa but it was just too rich. But fear not! After a few batches and some tweaks, I bring you the most tasty, warm and cozy, Nutella hot chocolate recipe, for those cold winter days and nights! The addition of schnapps is optional so the kiddos may enjoy as well! See recipe below.

And if you love these enamel mugs like I do, you can pick some up at West Elm!

INGREDIENTS

Makes 1 Cup of Hot Chocolate

  • 1 cup whole or skim milk (do you really need to watch the calories with this one?)
  • 2 tablespoons of Nutella or other imposter, hazelnut spread
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of Hazelnut Liqueur/Schnapps
  • Pinch of salt
  • Marshmallows (optional)

DIRECTIONS

1. In a small/medium size sauce pan (depending on how many servings you're making), heat milk over medium heat until edges start to bubble, about 3-4 minutes.

2. Reduce heat to simmer and add Nutella, schnapps and pinch of salt, stirring until Nutella has melted and is smooth.

3. Top with marshmallows. These were made from scratch, using Martha Stewart's snowflake marshmallow recipe, but using a star-shaped cookie cutter instead of a snowflake. Enjoy!
